Field Hockey Team Advances To SWC Semis

UPDATE: The semifinal game between Newtown and Immaculate will be played at neutral site New Milford High Thursday, October 24 at 7 pm.

The No. 3 and host Newtown High School field hockey team scored in the second half to edge No. 6 New Fairfield 1-0 in the South-West Conference Tournament quarterfinals on October 21.

Rachael Albrecht tipped a shot by Abby Ihlefeld into the goal less than a minute into the second half. The goal was set up by an Ellenoire Schoen pass.

The Nighthawks advance to the semifinals and will visit Np. 2 Immaculate of Danbury on Thursday, October 24 (game time to be announced). Immaculate edged NHS 2-1 to end the regular season.

In the win over New Fairfield Newtown goaltender Riley Alesevich made seven saves. NHS got stellar defense from Kayla Locke and Evelyn Schoen. Reese Lischuk was strong in the midfield, and right wing Lily Ammerman was solid up top. Ellenoire Schoen helped create numerous chances and was all over the ball throughout the game.
