Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP) is hoping to see plenty of young costumed residents this weekend, during The Fourth Annual Sandy Hook Village Halloween Walk.

This year’s event will be Saturday, October 25, from 11 am to 2 pm. Downtown merchants  — all located within walking distance of the Church Hill Road-Washington Avenue-Riverside Road-Glen Road intersection — will scare up a delightful array of in-store candy and other treats for kids dressed in costume.

Local children are invited to attend with parent or other adult, in their best, scariest, funniest, and creative Halloween outfits. The Sandy Hook business district offers a safe environment for students to trick or treat during the daylight hours. Decorations will be up and the businesses will be ready all of the young guests business owners are looking forward to seeing.

Members of Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue will be stationed in the parking lot at 102 Church Hill Road, also handing out candy as well as Trick or Treat bags for anyone who wants to visit.

A collection box for FAITH Food Pantry will also be set up on Saturday. Firefighters will deliver all items to the food pantry, located in the undercroft of St John’s Church on Washington Avenue, after the Halloween Walk.

The following is a list of businesses who will be participating in the Halloween Walk: The Country Mill, Cover Two Sports Café, Figs Wood Fired Bistro, Foundry Kitchen & Tavern, Fun Kids Consignments / Fun Kuts for the Whole Family, Julie’s Piano Workshop, Labels + Tags, Newtown United Methodist Church, PJ’s Laundromat, Porco’s Karate Academy, Sandy Hook Deli & Catering, Sandy Hook Diner, Sandy Hook Hair Co., Sandy Hook Wine & Liquor, Sabrina Style, The Villa Restaurant, Village Perk Café, Wesley Learning Center, and Wishing Well.

Organizer Sharon Doherty, owner of PJ’s Laundromat, said that last year’s Halloween event had the largest turnout yet and she is excited to welcome old and new visitors back again this year.

“It’s for the little kids and that’s what it is all about. The little kids having a good time,” said Ms Doherty.

“The Halloween Walk has been a very special local community event that attracts many families with young kids. It’s a safe alternative to trick or treating because it’s such a pedestrian friendly neighborhood,” she noted.
