Seven new members have joined the Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard.
Lauren Chirgwin, Marcia Luons, James McMinn, Annie Mecca, Kathleen Miranti, Patricia Moore and Robin Shea graduated the 24-week training session on Sunday, September 11. More than 100 friends and family members were on hand at the graduation ceremony held at the Second Company headquarters at Fairfield Hills.
The 24-week training session began in April and consisted of military drill and ceremony, cavalry horsemanship and horse care. New members will immediately join troop functions, including weekly drills, community events, state park patrol and more.
Prospective members interested in joining a 24-week training session must be at least 18 years old and in good condition. Anyone interested can download applications at www.thehorseguard.com or pick up applications during Sunday drills at the Horse Guard headquarters at Fairfield Hills.
The Second Company is commanded by Major Janis Arena and is one of four active militia units in the state. There are 52 active members and 32 horses. The Troop participates in parades, community events, and is provided with professional riding instructions.
