Labor Of Love Turns Into A Book For Brookfield Resident

DANBURY — As a computer expert in corporate America, Sarah R. Burns has authored computer training manuals, but never imagined she would someday write a children’s book.

That was before her nephew, Jake, came along 11 years ago and helped show Mrs Burns what the real adventures in life are like.

Her first children’s book, My Chapter Book: Jake’s Adventures, brings the young reader many places, including the classic Dumbo ride at Disney, into Cookie Monster’s arms at Sesame Place, riding the carousel at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo, in the middle of the pumpkin patch at Jones’ Tree Farm, and around the tree with family on Christmas morning.

Mrs Burns will be the guest reader during a story time on Thursday, November 3, at Danbury Public Library. The program will begin at 11:15 am, and is free of charge.

My Chapter Book: Jake’s Adventures is told with simple words that children can easily read and classic family snapshots featuring Jake, the only youngster in the Burns family, and his relatives. Mrs Burns has said she originally made the book of memories five years ago as a “labor of love,” a keepsake just for Jake.

Copies of Jake’s Adventures will be available for purchase during the Danbury Library event, priced at $18.

Mrs Burns, who lives in Brookfield, sees the book as a vehicle for alleviating children’s fears about trying different activities in life. She figures if a child sees another child like Jake enjoying an amusement park ride, swimming or singing, they too will feel comfortable in those ventures.

Danbury Library can be reached at 797-4505.
