Campus Notes

Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences awarded the Joseph R. Takats III Physicians’ Hall of Sponsors Scholarship to Lindsey Malloy. This scholarship is awarded based on academic and leadership performance.

Lindsey is the daughter of Jane and John Malloy. A third-year medical student she is active as a student ambassador, member of Docs for Tots, the OB/GYN Club Pediatrics Club and the Undergraduate American Academy of Osteopathy. Lindsey also serves as a CPR instructor and teaching assistant and tutor.

Rachel Stern is participating in the Bates College Junior Semester Abroad program. Rachel, an economics major, is studying in several countries through the International Honors Program. A dean’s list student, Rachel is the daughter of Karen and Michael Stern. She is a 2003 graduate of Newtown High School.

Lisa Masella was recently honored as a recipient of the Skookum Award, an honor presented by Western New England College’s Alumni Association. Lisa was one of 15 outstanding senior students to receive the award during the Alumni Association’s award dinner on September 30 during Homecoming Weekend. The Skookum is awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in all their endeavors: academics, co-curricular activities, sports, and community service. Skookum is the Native American Chinook Indian word meaning excellence.

Lisa is a communications major, captain of the women’s basketball team and co-founder of the Omicron Delta Kappa Society. She has been a resident advisor, a participant in the LEADS program and is a proud member of Lambda Pi Eta. In her off campus volunteer work, Lisa has been the site leader for Make a Difference Day for three years in a row and has helped with the Save Our Kids Outreach Program.

Matthew Klaus has been selected for membership into Golden Key International Honor Society, the largest collegiate honor society in the world. This honor is in recognition of the outstanding academic achievement of being in the top 15 percent of class rankings at American University.
