A Candidate On Himself

To the Editor:

I would like to introduce myself to the voters of District 3. My name is Jeff Capeci and I am running for a seat on the Legislative Council. I am a business analyst with an engineering background. I work in an environment where results are not only expected, but necessary for advancement. My wife, Tanya, and I have lived in Newtown for 8½ years. We are raising our two children, Bradley and Greta who attend Middle Gate Elementary School. When Bradley was born almost seven years ago, we made the decision that Tanya would put her career on hold to take the lead in raising our family. I decided to run for office last summer because there is so much at stake in the future of Newtown.

Tanya and I both take an active role in the upbringing of our two children. Tanya handles the day-to-day including getting the kids to and from school and activities, running the household and providing the constant attention children require. We both engage them in discussion at the dinner table then I take over working with them on school work and getting them ready for bed. I also like to take time out of my work schedule to volunteer at Middle Gate, and to participate in their sports and other activities. This year I am Bradley’s Cub Scout Den leader.

I know firsthand the difficulties of raising a family in Newtown on a single income. Each year open space is converted into housing resulting in more and more children enrolling in our schools and forever changing the character of Newtown. In response to these and other challenges, decisions are too often made without concern for the taxpayer who reluctantly accepts the mounting burden. The cost of living increases seen over the past several years are unsustainable. If left uncontrolled, the people who care the most for our town will no longer be able afford to call it home.

I want to work on behalf of the residents of Newtown for a broader tax base that will: provide our children with a better school system; improve the quality of our municipal services; and help to promote responsible development of our quaint town. If you share these values, I hope you will support my candidacy. Vote for me, Jeff Capeci, on November 8.
