What is the best plan of development for the re-use of Fairfield Hills? I’m in favor of town purchase, and we need to put police, fire, municipal, education and ambulance up there. It would be ideal if we can enter into partnerships with a developer, where we own the property and we dictate to that developer what parts of Fairfield Hills they can develop.

How do you feel about giving tax breaks to special groups: senior citizens, volunteer emergency personnel and new businesses? Senior citizens should be given a tax break based on need, and income guidelines should be set up based on a maximum income level, not purely based on age. New businesses should not get tax breaks. There has not been a huge influx of new businesses in town over the past 10 years. Volunteer emergency services should be given some break or incentive to be able to live in town. They are the first people to call, so we want them close at hand on the spur of the moment.

What are Newtown’s three most pressing capital needs? How do we plan for them given the nearly $60 million worth of projects currently on the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP)? The 5/6 school, municipal office space and fire and police departments. The ideal scenario would be if the town could purchase a portion of Fairfield Hills and put some offices up there for municipal needs. I think that instead of funding individual projects, it would be more efficient to create a master plan and take care of a number of projects at the same time.

What skills do you have for the job that will most benefit the town of Newtown?

My two years of experience on the Legislative Council, my education and work experience, and just the fact that I’ve been involved in the town for the last 13 years.

Is there one aspect of Newtown’s government you would like to see changed?

We need to streamline the decision making process, and make the selectman’s office as well as the Legislative Council more efficient.

Why do you feel that you should be re-elected?

Because of my experience, education and involvement in the town.
