Girls’ Swim And Dive Squad Wins At New Fairfield
Newtown High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team again sealed the team victory and exhibitioned its last four events — common thread this fall — in a 93-69 win at New Fairfield on October 13.
The Nighthawks had the top two groups in the 200 yard medley relay event. Ella Seaver, Zoe Petertonjes, Grace Fischer, and Alexa Kwarcinski placed first in 1:59.04. Sierra Marx, Madelyn Marcisz, Anna Shew, and Lauren Smiley came in second in a time of 2:09.46.
Emily Metzger and Angela Wennerholm finished one-two in the 200 freestyle race with times of 2:18.15 and 2:22.35. Diellza Limani and Lillian Accettella gave the Nighthawks another one-two in the 200 individual medley with times of 2:29.36 and 2:34.34. Marx had Newtown’s fastest time in the 50 free with a 29.24, good for second place.
In the diving competition, Nicole Gutrie was first and Geneva Whorf came in second.
Grace Fisher was first in the 100 butterfly event clocking in at 1:07.20 and Shew was runner-up in 1:15.47. Newtown again had the top two racers in the next event, the 100 free. Smiley won in 1:00.91 and Seaver was second in 1:02.98. Marcisz was first in the 500, making her final touch in 6:01.42.
In the 200 free relay race, Kwarcinski, Seaver, Fischer, and Limani took first in 1:52.87. The relay team of Indigo Land, Noelle Marrazzo, Angela Wennerholm, and Accettella was second in 2:04.78.
Petertonjes won the 100 backstroke race with a time of 1:06.58 and Marx followed in 1:11.40. Kwarcinski won the 100 breaststroke event in 1:10.95 and Marrazzo was second in 1:27.93.
Newtown’s 400 free relay contingent comprising Limani, Shew, Smiley, and Petertonjes was first in 4:08.50 and the team of Wennerholm, Marx, Audrey McLean, and Metzger was second in 4:30.50.
