To the Editor:

When asked what we love about our town, Newtowners talk about the natural beauty and open spaces. When I look out over Newtown from Castle Hill, it’s green as far as my eye can see. Our scenic beauty truly is a gift. Our Congresswoman Jahana Hayes agrees.

Jahana introduced an important law this year: the Housatonic Wild and Scenic River Act. This law will protect one of our natural attractions that flows over 41 miles, from Litchfield County to the Long Island Sound. In fact, this year she was awarded an A rating, or 100%, by the National Parks Action Fund based on her congressional voting record.

Congresswoman Hayes voted for the Inflation Reduction Act, which tackles climate change by investing in clean energy. She sits on the full House committees on Agriculture, and on Education and Labor. She also introduced legislation to replace diesel school buses with safe, zero-emissions buses, to protect our children.

Congresswoman Hayes votes to protect us and our precious natural resources. Now we must vote to send Jahana Hayes back to Congress.
