To the Editor:

Over the last several weeks we have received mailers to our homes regarding the candidates running to represent the 5th District of Connecticut in the US House of Representatives.

With a close look, you will see that these flyers are being created and sent by the “Congressional Leadership Fund.”

The CLF is a political action committee “dedicated to electing Republicans to the House of Representatives.” Their approach seems to be sending voters misleading headlines about our current Congresswoman Jahana Hayes.

It is curious they would promote misleading ads rather than putting forth policies they believe address the needs of constituents. My guess is that they really don’t care about people in Connecticut, they care about getting as many seats in Congress as possible to advance their extreme agenda.

Many House Republicans have already declared that if they regain control of the US House of Representatives, they will put forth a bill to ban abortion nationally. Because they know this is wildly unpopular, particularly in Connecticut, the super PAC tries to portray their candidate as the candidate who will defend reproductive rights.

Jahana Hayes has a clear record of fighting for Connecticut families and the district she represents. Married to a police officer and a nationally recognized educator, she has demonstrated with action her support of law enforcement, education, the environment, our economy, women, and workers in Connecticut.

Up and down the ballot we need to understand what candidates stand for and how they will fight for and represent our interests. Please join me in voting to re-elect Congresswoman Jahana Hayes.
