Volunteer Drivers Needed For Newtown Meals On Wheels
Winter is coming, and many “snowbirds” who volunteer all over Newtown are heading south. Newtown Meals On Wheels is one local organization that is experiencing a fall off in the number of drivers available to deliver meals to the housebound in Newtown/Sandy Hook.
Volunteers pick up the prepared midday meals at Masonicare at Newtown, 139 Toddy Hill Road, and bring them to people who are permanently or temporarily unable to make their own hot meals. Most volunteers drive just once a month, and pick up, delivery, and return of thermal bags to Masonicare generally takes less than two hours.
Drivers are needed particularly for the second Wednesday of the month, the fourth Monday and fourth Friday of the month, and when a month has a fifth week.
Newtown Meals On Wheels is a nonprofit organization and relies on volunteers to successfully accommodate people in need of meals, Monday through Friday. A current Connecticut driver’s license is required.
