Dustin Gregory Hanson

Dustin Gregory Hanson, 23, of Sandy Hook died at Waterbury Hospital October 17, from injuries received in a motorcycle accident. He was born in Norwalk, May 15, 1992.

Mr Hanson graduated from Newtown High School, Class of 2010. He served in the United States Navy as a cryptologic technician technical, on board the USS Cowpens CG-63. He aided in the humanitarian relief efforts in the Philippines after a devastating typhoon in 2013.

His parents, Shari and Gregory Hanson, and brother, Dylan Hanson, of Sandy Hook survive Mr Hanson. His aunt/godmother Sheila Gombos; godfather Vinnie Caruso; aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive Mr Hanson.

His grandparents, Elizabeth and Frank Fumo, Nancy Hanson Mills, and John Hanson, and one uncle predeceased him.

Mr Hanson was a huge New York Yankees fan. His favorite player was Derek Jeter. He loved playing baseball and riding dirt bikes. He will be remembered as a giving young man, who became an organ donor and has saved additional lives.

He loved to make people laugh, and his endless smile brightened up everyone’s day.

“We were very proud of him serving our great country. He will be incredibly missed by all. Rest in peace, our beauty, our sailor. We love you, yo!”

A memorial service will take place Saturday, October 24, at 3 pm, at the Newtown United Methodist Church, 92 Church Hill Road, in Sandy Hook. Military honors will follow.
