A Rainy Passport To Sandy Hook

The Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP) held the Fourth Annual Passport to Sandy Hook on Saturday, October 11.

The event challenged participants to visit the 32 participating locations to have their “passports” stamped at each stop. Participants to completed having their passports stamped at all of the participating locations were entered into a drawing for three prize packages.

Activities were also held throughout the five-hour-long event. Some activities or offerings were WPLR held a live radio broadcast, The Country Mill offered cookies for children, Family Fun Kits/Fun Kids Consignments offered $5 hair feathers along with temporary tattoos, Green Crystal Massage had a “Ms Pumpkin” outside welcoming event goers, restaurants offered free samplings or appetizers, Porco Karate Academy held demonstrations during an open house, Sandy Hook Hair Co. offered a $5 panel of color temporary treatment for hair, Sandy Hook Wine & Liquor offered wine tastings, and Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue collected items for the FAITH Food Pantry during a stuff-a-truck event.

The first grand prize package, which was valued at $1,345, went to Beth Hagerty, who won ten tickets to Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus in Newtown Savings Bank Corporate Suite at Webster Bank Arena, a wine tasting at McLaughlin Vineyards, complimentary tickets to the Newtown United Methodist Church’s Spaghetti Dinner and Coffeehouse, a Suzuki Music School early music education class, a one month unlimited membership to CrossFit Hook’d, and gift certificates to Cover Two Sports Café, Green Crystal Massage, Figs Wood Fired Bistro, PJ’s Laundromat, Foundry Kitchen and Tavern, and Villa Restaurant.

The second grade prize, valued at $999, went to Dawn Ballard. She won ten tickets to Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus in Newtown Savings Bank Corporate Suite at Webster Bank Arena, complimentary tickets to the Newtown United Methodist Church Spaghetti Dinner and Coffeehouse, a certificate to the Agora Spa at the Stamford Marriott compliments of WPLR, Mine Art Gallery classes, a Christmas Tree from Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue, and gift certificates to Sabrina Style, Porco’s Karate Academy, The Hook, Cover Two Sports Café, Village Perk Café, Foundry Kitchen and Tavern, Figs Wood Fired Bistro, and Family Fun Kuts/Fun Kids Consignments.

The third grand prize, valued at $715, went to Iwona Dabek, who won a Newtown Forest Association Membership and T-shirts, complimentary tickets to the Newtown United Methodist Church Spaghetti Dinner, an Agora Spa at the Stamford Marriott certificate compliments of WPLR, and gift certificates to Cover Two Sports Café, Sandy Hook Deli & Catering, labels + tags, Sandy Hook Hair Co., The Villa Restaurant, Jackie Gaudet’s Voice Studio (two 45-minute voice lessons), Graceful Planet Moving Arts Center, Sandy Hook Wine & Liquor, The Country Mill, and Sandy Hook Diner.

Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue held a stuff-a-truck event to collect items for the FAITH Food Pantry during the Fourth Annual Passport To Sandy Hook event. A group of volunteers stood together after noon on Saturday with the truck.

Dawn Ballard, standing back left, was the second grade prize winner for completing the Passport to Sandy Hook challenge. She wasn’t alone. Her family, from left, daughter Gracie, son Kenny, mother Charlene Barney, and father Ken Barney also took part in the event.
