MILFORD – While the Lady Nighthawks had put together a nice 6-2-1 record prior to a South-West Conference match with Jonathan Law at Treadwell Park, the talented offense had never really blown anyone out.

Until last Friday.

Shannon Rouse scored three goals and assisted on two others as the Lady Nighthawks blasted the Lawmen, 8-0. The ‘Hawks exploded for five goals in the first half and then added three more in the second half to finish off the rout.

Erin Doyle and Colleen Davis added two goals each and Catherine Foster chipped in with one. Morgan Haines, Erin McDonald and Foster all had assists as the Newtown offense outshot Law 20-0 and the defense gave goaltender Kate Bouteiller the day off.

The rest proved to be a good thing, too, as the ‘Hawks ran into a bit of a tougher match at Foran on Tuesday. Foran went into the match with a 4-6-1 record but put together a hard effort against the Lady Nighthawks.

Rouse scored a pair of goals (she now has a team-high 13 for the season) as Newtown took a 2-1 lead into the half and made it stand up as the final. The ‘Hawks, who outshot Foran only 10-4, pushed their record to 8-2-1 and set the stage for a thrilling finish to the regular season.

The ‘Hawks will host Masuk on Friday and then travel to Lauralton Hall (9-1-1) on Tuesday. Pomperaug on October 29 and Immaculate on November 1 will close out the regular season schedule for the ‘Hawks.

And , if things break right, it will be on to the playoffs on Wednesday, November 3.
