Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, will host a new speaker series scheduled to kick off Thursday, October 24, at 7 pm, with speaker and author Sebastian Junger.

The series, "Newtown Talks: Conversations on Culture, Society, and Change," is meant to host conversations on culture, society, and change. The series will be hosted by Suzy DeYoung and Lee Shull.

Junger is the author of Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging, among many other titles. The topic of his Newtown discussion will be his latest release, In My Time of Dying: How I Came Face to Face with the Idea of an Afterlife.

Junger’s book explores his brush with death and encountering his dead father’s spirit. The event changed his outlook on the afterlife, and he writes about his changed perspective.

DeYoung shared in an interview with The Bee that what she likes the most is how Junger "doesn’t close the book with an answer. He leaves it up to the reader.”

The event is an opportunity for the community to learn about Junger’s experience and connect with each other.

General admission is $35 and front row and “skip the line” book signing tickets are $50. Tickets are available through edmondtownhall.org.

Byrd’s Books will be selling copies of Junger’s book for signing following the conversation. The Bethel book store has been selected as the book vendor for the full series, which continues almost monthly to February. There is no January program planned.

"Newtown Talks" will continue on November 21 with author Dani Shapiro. See our online calendar for more information.
