Josephine Urso
Josephine “Jo” Urso, 101, beloved aunt, became an angel on September 13, 2023. She was born in Pearl River, N.Y. on July 30, 1922, daughter of the late Frank C. and Cira “Restagno” Urso.
Jo was a devoted daughter, sister, sister-in-law and aunt.
Jo graduated from Bedford Hills High School in 1940 and immediately began working at Reader’s Digest in the incoming mail department. Within one day she was noticed by her boss and was making changes in how mail and money was opened and sorted. She was the first and only female manager until her retirement and was proud to celebrate with her department a 1 million dollar day and soon after a 2 million dollar day. Jo loved working with colleagues and the women in her department.
Jo and her sister, Fran, bowled very well, scoring a 600.
She retired after 37 years to move to Boynton Beach, Florida with her mother and her sister. Her happiest moments were spent with her family. In 2012 Jo moved to Maplewood at Newtown to be closer to her sister-in-law, niece and nephews. She will always be remembered as someone who financially supported her family with love and grace.
She will be remembered by her friends in Newtown for her love of bingo, painting, and rummikub as well as her determination to always be dressed up with jewelry and lipstick!
Josephine was predeceased by her sister, Frances Urso and her brother, Clarence F. Urso.
Aunt Josephine will be dearly missed by her sister-in-law, Connie Urso, her niece, Leigh Fiorito (Terry Fiorito), her nephews; John Urso (Kelly Urso), Frank John “FJ” Urso; and her three great nephews: Nicholas Urso, Jack Urso and Mark Urso.
