It is an honor to write this letter of endorsement for Philip Cruz, who is running for a seat on the Police Commission in Newtown. Phil is a man of integrity, leadership, and service.

He has a diverse and impressive background that makes him well-qualified to be a member of the Police Commission. He is a retired Army Officer, who served for 25 years with distinction and honor and attained the rank of Major. Senior Army officers have commended him for his leadership skills, professionalism, and willingness to work with others as a team. He continues his affiliation with the military as a member of the American Legion and as the vice president of the Western Connecticut Military Officers Association.

Phil’s post-military experience includes 28 years of service as a social studies teacher in Newtown Middle School along with service as president of the local Teachers’ Union. He rounds out his resume with 17 years of sales and management experience in the electronics industry, where he worked for such well-known companies as Intel and National Semiconductor.

Phil is passionate about public safety and community development. He has served five years on the Planning and Wetlands Commissions in Danbury, two years as an alternate member on Newtown Planning and Zoning and four years as a voting member on the Newtown Water Sewer Authority.

Phil has the experience, the leadership skills and an understanding of the town and its needs and concerns to excel as a member of the Police Commission.

Phil is committed to making Newtown a safe place to live and work. He has a clear vision and a realistic plan for improving the police department and enhancing its collaboration with other agencies. He has a proven track record of delivering results and solving problems, is prudent and responsible and is a leader who listens, learns, and leads by example.

I urge you to vote for Philip Cruz for a position on the Police Commission. He will serve you with honesty, integrity, and excellence.
