DUI Arrest

On October 16, Newtown Police reported arresting John Anthony Reardon, 20, of Timber Mill Road, Newtown on the charges of Illegal Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, and Failure to Drive in the Proper Lane. Newtown Lieutenant Aaron Bahamonde reported that at about midnight that evening, Reardon came to the Newtown Police Department after being advised that there was a warrant for his arrest. The warrant stemmed from an incident involving a motor vehicle crash on April 9 of this year at the intersection of Horseshoe Ridge Road and Old Green Road. Following an investigation at the scene of that crash, Newtown police administered standardized Field Sobriety Tests before the operator was transported to Danbury Hospital by Newtown Ambulance for possible injuries. After processing on the outstanding warrant, Reardon was released with no bond on a promise to appear in court on October 30.

Slick Conditions

A 2004 Super Duty pick-up was heavily damaged following a crash on Interstate 84 eastbound near Exit 9 at about 1:30 pm on October 15, according to State Police. The report indicated that Joseph Mark Feest, 53, of Prospect lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, crashed into and damaged approximately 150 feet of DOT guardrail. The operator was not injured, but the vehicle was towed from the scene. The report states that Troopers advised Feest that he was traveling too fast for conditions.

Hyundai Into Trees

On October 15, at approximately 6:54 pm, Newtown Police were called to investigate a one vehicle collision on The Old Road near the intersection of Twist Hill Road. Upon arrival, officers report that Emir Joseph Kurkcu, 17, of Newtown was operating a 203 Hyundai Sonata eastbound when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which left the roadway and struck several trees. A passenger in the Hyundai complained of abdominal pain and was transported to a local hospital by Newtown EMS volunteers. Kurkcu was issued infractions for violating the state age/passenger restriction and for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Failure To Appear

Newtown Police report that at approximately 9:27 pm on October 15, Bruce Kramer, 70, of New Fairfield was processed on an outstanding arrest warrant for Failure To Appear in the Second Degree. According to Newtown Lt Aaron Bahamonde, Connecticut State Police brought Kramer to the Newtown Police Department after taking him into custody on that active arrest warrant. He was originally issued Misdemeanor Summons for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and following too closely back in June after he was involved in a two car accident on Route 34. Kramer was scheduled for a November 1 court appearance and was released on a $500 bond.

Two Vehicles Towed

Newtown Police reported that both vehicles involved in an October 12 crash at the intersection of Hanover Road and Hall Lane both had to be towed due to the extent of damage. According to the report, at approximately 8:13 am that day, Thomas Michael Hartley, 17 of Newtown was traveling eastbound on Hall Lane operating a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. After reportedly stopping at the Hanover Road stop sign, the Jetta pulled onto Hanover Road and was struck by a southbound 2006 Mazda 3i being operated by Kirsten Keating Liniger, 22, of Sandy Hook. No injuries were reported, and Hartley was issued a written warning for Failure to Grant the Right of Way at a Stop Sign.

Hawleyville Collision

Newtown Police were called to investigate a minor two-vehicle collision on October 12 at about 8:35 am at the Hawleyville Road intersection with the off ramp to Interstate 84 westbound Exit 9. Upon arrival, officers say that Sarah Cole, 40, of Oxford was operating a 2011 Chevrolet Suburban, when she turned onto Hawleyville Road and hit the left rear door and quarter panel of a 2007 Honda Odyssey being operated in the southbound lane by Naresh Kumar Talwar, 61, of Brookfield. No injuries were reported by either operator or any of the four passengers in the Suburban. Cole was issued a written warning for Failure to Grant the Right Of Way at a Stop Sign.

Ford Vs Lexus

State Police responded to a reported minor collision at the eastbound Interstate 84 Exit 11 off ramp at 10:28 am on October 12. Upon arrival, it was determined that Heather Sherwood, 48, of Newtown was operating a 2014 Ford Escape and was stopped at a red light behind a 2003 Lexus ES 300 being operated by Susan Feldheim, 80, of Hamden. Police report the Ford rolled forward slightly, contacting the rear of the Lexus, and they issued Sherwood a verbal warning for making an unsafe movement from a stopped position.

Following Too Closely

State Troopers were called at 3:57 pm on October 12 to the area of Exit 9 eastbound on Interstate 84 after a reported minor rear end collision. According to the report, Michael Cavalli, 17, of Danbury was operating a 2012 Ford Focus and stopped at the stop sign after exiting the highway. He was struck from behind by a 2018 Range Rover Evoque being operated by Ivy Young, 59, of Farmington. After investigating, Young was issued a verbal warning for following too closely.

Semi Sideswiped

On October 11 at about 5:49 pm, State Troopers were called to the area of Exit 1 Eastbound on Interstate 84 to investigate a collision. Upon arrival, officers determined that Joann Keating, 59, of Southbury was operating a 2013 Audi A4 and merging onto the highway when she sideswiped a 2003 Peterbilt truck pulling a Great Dane trailer that was being operated by Christopher Legus, 42, of Mentone, Indiana. No injuries and minor damage resulted. Keating was issued a verbal warning for making an unsafe lane change.
