Shirley Ann Luckner
Shirley Ann (Pulaski) Luckner, 83, of Newtown died October 16 at Danbury Hospital with her son Wayne, sister Margaret, and caregiver Pearline at her side. Mrs Luckner was the widow of Clinton T. Luckner. Born May 9, 1932, in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Margaret (Zelinski) and Edward Pulaski.
Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Fredrickson, and husband Kemper, of Fair Haven, Vt.; son, Wayne Luckner and Mirra, of Danbury; grandchildren Kurt Fredrickson and Mihoko of Virginia, Matthew Luckner and Vallarie Rios of Old Greenwich, and Faith Luckner of Danbury; sisters, Virginia Dudics Gwydir of Newtown, and Margaret Pulaski of Monroe; step-grandson Eric Penn of Milwaukee, Wis.; three great-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews. Mrs Luckner always felt very lucky to be surrounded with a large network of loving and caring friends and neighbors.
She was a homemaker for much of her life, enjoying the successes and stories of her children, grandchildren, and family. She loved the outdoors and all creatures of nature. During baseball season, she rooted enthusiastically for her New York Yankees.
The family would like to thank Pearline Taylor, her caregiver, for her kindness and compassionate caring, and for making Mrs Luckner as comfortable as possible for the last three years. In Pearline, she finally met her match. She did not get her way all the time anymore, because Pearline knew what was good for her and made sure she got it. Pearline became a member of the family during her time with Mrs Luckner, and the family is grateful for her presence. The family also thanks Mrs Luckner’s many friends for their caring ways and kindness over the years. She dearly loved their visits when they brought her goodies — cookies, pastries, candies, etc.
The family will receive friends at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, on Tuesday, October 20, from 5 to 8 pm. Burial in Stepney Cemetery, Monroe, will be private.
