Cultural Commission Seeking Auxiliary Members
Newtown Cultural Arts Commission is seeking auxiliary members. Prospective auxiliary members do not have to live in Newtown or be artists.
In addition to general interest, the commission is looking for people with specific skills to work on the fifth annual Newtown Arts festival, set for September 2016.
The arts festival, which draws thousands to its two day celebration as well as its events held throughout September, is specifically looking for people skilled in marketing, fundraising/sponsorship, and safety and security.
In addition to the arts festival, the commission sponsors the Sunday Cinema Series with the Edmond Town Hall Board of Managers, and a display case at Booth Library, with the library’s cooperation. It also manages the art shows at Newtown Municipal Center, and grants scholarships and grants with the proceeds of the Newtown Arts Festival.
This past spring, the Board of Selectman asked the commission to recruit and recommend Newtown’s first Poet Laureate, who was introduced to the community at the Newtown Arts Festival.
After receiving numerous contributions of sound and music equipment after 12/14, NCAC also set up a lending procedure to make this equipment available to town organizations.
The commission meets once a month, with Festival Committees meeting more often as the festival date nears.
