The Newtown youth Cross Country team traveled to Great Hollow Lake in Monroe and faced Jockey Hollow, Weston and Shelton, this past week. Both the boysâ and girlsâ Newtown teams won.
The girls were led by Maddie Findley in first, Maggie Beardsley in second, Olivia Hage in sixth, Julia DiMartino in ninth, and Rylee Mulligan in tenth.
While the top five girls remains the same, the order in which these talented seventh graders finish changes week to week. âAll five of these girls are capable of winning on any given day,â Coach Eileen Fish said.
The boys won easily with Riley Rising winning his fourth race in a row, Joel Duval placing second, Connor McNerney fourth, Jabob Steinebrey fifth, and Dylan Bartlett tenth.
While the team members continue to take each race seriously they are looking toward the National Championships In Albuquerque, NM in December.
âThis is the most talented group weâve had in the six years since the Hawks Cross Country team was founded,â Fish said. âI look forward to taking these kids all the way to nationals this year.â
The team is kicking off fundraising to attend the championship meet. For more information, or to donate, go to http://www.newtownhawks.com.
