Support Groups
Children of the Force: This is a special free group to help your child heal from the pain caused by divorce or separation. It provides your child with a safe and neutral place to recognize and learn how to share their feelings. Classes are held every Wednesday, starting October 23, and will continue for seven weeks. Ages 8â10 will meet from 4 to 5 pm, and 11â13-year olds will meet from 5 to 6.
Community Programs
Job Bank: Leaves falling in your lawn, but just donât have the time to rake and bag them? Or do you need a babysitter and want to know you are getting an experienced and trained candidate?
Call NYFSâs Job Bank! Our Job Bank is assembled with multiple youths from the Newtown/Sandy Hook communities who have a passion for working. They can provide assistance with any jobs involving yard work, house work, babysitting, tutoring, animal care, among other odd jobs.
The Job Bank is open to ages 13 through 17 who are interested in helping others, and gaining work experience. These members submit applications and resumes, in addition to attending specific trainings and interviews to ensure you get quality help. So let them do a job for you!
Holiday Festival
Crafters, vendors, and groups are encouraged to contact Newtown Youth & Family Services to be included in our 2012 Holiday Festival. The Holiday Festival is in its 27th year, and is scheduled for Sunday, December 2. Besides Nutcracker Ballet presented by Malenkee Ballet, the Victorian Tea sponsored by Newtown Savings Bank, and the Festival of Trees hosted by C.H. Booth library and various Girl Scout representatives, droves of participants love the stroll along Main Street to visit the decorated homes.
Vendors and crafters are encouraged to bring their talents and goodies to the Edmond Town Hall during the Holiday Festival. Vendor and crafter forms can be downloaded from www.NewtownYouthAndFamilyServices.org. Reserve your space now to ensure a prime location!
Want to help out the community and have fun doing it? We are looking for docents to be guides throughout homes that will be featured on the most anticipated house tour during the Holiday Festival. If you or your group would like to help out, contact Kaitlyn at NYFS.
All programs take place at NYFS, 15 Berkshire Road. For more information or to register call 203-270-4335.
