Sarah Elizabeth Higgins and James Ray Govier were married on September 9, 2012, in Lincoln, Neb., by the Reverend Bill Carl.
The bride is the daughter of Antoinette and William Higgins of Cary, N.C.; all are former residents of Newtown.
Sarah was given into marriage by her father. She wore her motherâs long white gown of Mexican cotton, with borders of handmade lace, and carried a bouquet of white roses and babyâs breath.
Laura Hickey of Washington, D.C., served as the maid of honor. Laura DiGennaro of Warwick, R.I., and Caroline Carl, Kailua Kona, Hawaii, were bridesmaids.
James is the son of Sall Govier of Lincoln, Neb., and Ted Govier of Ansley, Neb.
His best man was Brent Koepke of Lincoln, and Trey Govier of Lincoln and Dan Mountney of Lincoln were ushers.
Ryan Govier, also of Lincoln, was the coupleâs ring bearer.
Each wedding guest received a traditional Hawaiian orchid lei.
A reception at Sunken Gardens, also in Lincoln, followed the marriage ceremony. A pastry cook at Four Seasons Resort in Hualalai, Hawaii, the bride made the coupleâs wedding cake: a Hawaiian vanilla bean cake with lilikoi curd, covered in fondant.
The Goviers are both graduates of The Culinary Institute of America. Sarah earned an associateâs degree in baking and pastry, and James earned an associateâs in culinary arts. Mr Govier is a cook at Four Seasons Resort in Hualalai.
Having celebrated their wedding with a honeymoon in Punta Mita, Mexico, the Goviers have returned to their home in Kailua Kona, Hawaii.
