Newtown Recognized As Center For Excellence By Chartwells

By Eliza Hallabeck

Newtown has been recognized by Chartwells as a Center for Excellence, and a celebration to mark the occasion was held in the Newtown High School cafeteria on Thursday, October 11.

As people gathered in the cafeteria before the celebration, Chartwells Newtown Director Dan Shields said being recognized by the national company with the distinction represents two years worth of effort. He also said Newtown is one of two districts in the Northeast to earn the recognition.

“I’m very honored to be able to say we made the mark,” said Mr Shields.

The distinction will allow the Newtown site to run as a beta-operating site now, according to Mr Shields.

“It’s a great honor to be able to achieve it, and I am privileged to be here in Newtown,” said Mr Shields.

Chartwells marketing sales manager Tammy Dubois oversaw handing out certificates that noted members of the Chartwells Newtown staff who helped earn the honor, and she also introduced speakers.

Ms Dubois explained the school district had to meet more than 300 criteria to earn recognition as a Center for Excellence.

As a “flagship school” in Newtown, Ms Dubois explained the event was held at the high school to also acknowledge the staff there who are dedicated and loyal.

“You put in a lot of hard work, and we appreciate you for that,” said Ms Dubois.
