Hospital Launches First Patient/Family Advisory Council

DANBURY — Twenty people came together in early September after months of preparation to form Danbury Hospital’s first Patient/Family Advisory Council. Council members will help identify the needs and priorities of patients and their families in conjunction with hospital professionals to strengthen communication among patients, families, physicians, and staff.

The council will also provide input to hospital leadership in planning and evaluating services, programs, policies, and new facilities.

The Danbury Hospital Patient/Family Advisory Council consists of a combination of ten staff leaders from throughout Western Connecticut Health Network representing various services, and ten community members round out the group. The council, which meets monthly, identified their areas of educational interest during the introductory session, which was kicked off by John Murphy, MD, president and CEO of Western Connecticut Health Network on Wednesday, September 12.

Danbury Hospital Patient/ Family Advisory Council meetings will focus on several key areas, including an educational section whereby a portion of time is allocated for council members to provide their opinions relative to a concept, material, and the patient experience.
