George J. Albrecht

George J. “Red” Albrecht, 90, of Fairfield, beloved husband of 65 years of Dorothy A. Albrecht, died peacefully, October 15. Born in Bedford, Ohio, the son of Ann and G.J. Albrecht, he had been a Fairfield resident since 1965.

Survivors in addition to his wife include three children and their spouses, Scott and Jane Albrecht of Newtown, Dave and Lorraine Albrecht, of Fairfield, and Janis Albrecht of Gaysville, Vt.; five granddaughters, Ashlee, Amber, Jessie, Emily and Jaden; two great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Peggy, and a brother, Bill.

As a young man he was an accomplished athlete, enjoying all sports, but football being his favorite. He served in the US Army Transportation Corps during World War II, achieving the rank of captain. He graduated from Miami University of Oxford, Ohio, on Monday, June 9, then married Dorothy that Friday, the 13th, in 1947. Red’s business career spanned many years in the manufacturing of felt-tip markers. He owned his own business, Almar Industries from 1960 to 1972.

A memorial service will be held Friday, October 19, at 3:30 pm, at Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church, followed by an informal gathering in the fellowship hall. Interment will be private.
