Flipped Vehicle

On October 7 at about 2:49 pm, George Psaras, 17, of Greenwood Lane in Monroe, was operating a 2012 Nissan Murano westbound on Berkshire Road when he attempted to make a restricted turn onto Bradley Lane. Police said the maneuver flipped the vehicle onto its roof. No injuries were reported and the operator was cited for making a restricted turn.

 

Audi Vs Pole

On October 9 around 3:11 am, police responded to Toddy Hill Road after a report of a car striking a utility pole. They report that Danielle Gadori, 24, of South Main Street was operating a 2009 Audi A4 that struck and snapped the pole near 125 Toddy Hill Road. No injuries were reported but the vehicle had to be towed from the scene. The operator was charged with making a restricted turn.

Car Off Road

Police said Dylan Mount, 19, of Jockey Hollow Road, Monroe, was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions and failure to drive right following a single-vehicle crash on Toddy Hill Road near Button Shop Road October 10 at around 4:08 am. According to the report, the driver, who was operating a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon, was southbound when he told officers he crossed over the center line and traveled off the northbound shoulder. No injuries were reported.

Suspended License

On October 10 at about 4:16 pm, Michael Garland, 26, of Whisconier Road, Brookfield, was observed operating on Hawleyville Road while using a handheld cellphone. A check of records found he was operating with a suspended license. He was subsequently arrested and charged on that offense, and with operating a vehicle while using a cellphone. He was issued a misdemeanor summons and released on a promise to appear in court on October 24.

Following Too Close

According to police, on October 12 at around 10:25 am, Beth Goldberg-Guariglia, 51, was traveling northbound on Mt Pleasant Road near Mt Pleasant Terrace when she slowed her 2005 Chrysler Pacifica for traffic. Police said at that time, Mary Lou Grillo, 69, of Timber Drive, who was driving a 2007 Pontiac G6 failed to stop and struck the Chrysler from behind. No injuries were sustained, and Grillo was issued an infraction for following too close.

Two Car Collision

At about 6 pm on October 12, officers responded to Berkshire Road at the intersection of Chestnut Hill Road on the report of a two-car collision. Police reported that Patricia Tenney of Chestnut Hill Road was operating her 2008 Toyota Camry and attempting to turn left from Berkshire Road when she was hit from behind by a 2011 Chevy Cruse being operated by Brendan Stack, 23, of Beach Drive, Danbury. Sandy Hook Fire and Ambulance crews responded, but no injuries were reported. Stack was issued an infraction for following too close and distracted driving.

Nissan Vs Deer

Police said on October 12 at about 7:22 pm, Zachary Kapple, 23, of Algonquin Trail was operating a 2001 Nissan XTerra SUV on Walnut Tree Hill Road when the vehicle struck a deer. The front end of the vehicle sustained damage, but no injuries were reported.

Suspended License

On October 14 at about 7:25 pm police say they observed David A. Howard, 32, of  Schoolhouse Hill Road going through stop sign at Currituck and Obtuse Roads. After stopping the vehicle officers learned that Howard’s license was suspended. He was arrested and charged with failure to obey a stop sign and operating with suspended license. Howard was later released on a $100 cash bond pending a court appearance on October 30.

Rollover Crash

Police report that on October 14 at about 4:16 pm, Eugene Ropiak, 42, of Muirwood Court, Brookfield, was operating his 2004 Toyota SUV on Obtuse Road, when he reportedly drove off the roadway into the southbound shoulder, striking a tree, curb, and stone wall. The vehicle then rolled over into the roadway, police said. Ropiak was transported to Danbury Hospital by local ambulance volunteers for treatment of potential, but nonevident injuries. The crash is currently under investigation.

Outstanding Warrant

On October 18 police made a traffic stop on the I-84 Exit 11 on ramp at 2:13 pm after Larry A. Pignatello, 27, of Berniou Drive, Danbury, was observed traveling west on Wasserman Way using a hand-held cellphone. After being pulled over it was discovered he was operating with suspended license, and was wanted an outstanding warrant from Brookfield police. Once he was transported to Newtown police headquarters, he was additionally charged with Failure to Appear in the second-degree, operating under suspension, and failure to obey a control signal, tied to the warrant held in Brookfield. Pignatello was later released on a $1,000 bond pending a court appearance October 19.

 

Inmate Threats

Two employees of the Garner Correctional facility reported to state police that they were allegedly threatened by inmate William Turner, 29. No injuries were sustained according to the report. The accused was charged with two counts of threatening in the second degree. He was held on a $10,000 bond pending an October 17 arraignment.

Converter Thefts

The state police is investigating the thefts of catalytic converters from vehicles parked in commuter lots along Interstate 84. The thefts are happening between 7:30 am and 3 pm. Anyone with information regarding these thefts is asked to contact Troop A in Southbury at 203-267-2240. The suspects are operating some type of repair or wrecker vehicle, according to the report.

Mailbox Vandals

Police are seeking residents’ help in identifying the person or persons who vandalized a number of mailboxes overnight on October 12 and 13 in the area of Lone Oak Meadows Road. Anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the vandalism, is asked to call 203-426-5841 and speak with Officer Chapman.

Flying Debris

State police report that on October 14 at about 7 pm, a two-vehicle collision east of Exit 11 on westbound I-84 caused debris to fly into a third vehicle. According to the report, Samary Razzaq, 21 was operating a 2013 Mazda 6, when he struck a commercial 2013 Mack CXU tractor-trailer being operated by commercial driver Christopher Buchanan, 54, of Falmouth, Maine. Debris then struck a 2011 Volvo XC90 being driven by Suzanne Charette, 45, of Flanders Road, Woodbury. No injuries were reported, and no vehicular information or enforcement was posted; however, Razzaq’s vehicle was towed from the scene.

Hawleyville DUI

State police reported that troopers arrested James M. Marron, 27, of Farrell Road after he was observed operating a green Jeep SUV erratically on westbound Interstate 84 at about 1:15 am on October 16. Marron was charged with operating under the influence of drugs/alcohol as well as failure to drive in the proper lane. He was then released on a $500 nonsurety bond pending a court appearance on November 5.

Rear End Crash

On October 16 at about 9:12 am, state police report that a commercial vehicle owned by H&H Linen Service of new Britain struck the rear of a 2006 Nissan Quest being operated by Michelle Mays, 44, of Oxford who was westbound on I-84 east of Exit 10. The commercial Ford E150 was being operated by Jose R Martinez, 19, of Corbin Avenue, New Britain. No enforcement action was noted, and no injuries were reported.

Evading

On October 16 at about 5:37 pm, Newtown police report they arrested Robert A Capozziello, 26, of Turkey Roost Road in Monroe on charges of evading responsibility of a motor vehicle accident, and making a restricted turn. Capozziello was released on a $500 cash bond pending an October 30 court appearance. No information about the original incident was available.

Protective Order

At about 1:16 am on October 17, police on patrol noticed a vehicle belonging to Joseph Scarpelli, 21, of Abbey Lane in the driveway of a residence where he was barred due to a protective order. Upon further investigation, officers located Scarpelli inside the vehicle, and arrested him for the violation, as well as criminal trespass in the first degree. He was released on a $500 surety bond pending a court appearance later that day.

Larceny Charge

Newtown police were called to a private home after a complaint that an employee who worked at the home was suspected of larceny. Following an investigation, police arrested Sally A. Repasi on a charge of larceny in the sixth degree, and after processing, released her on a $100 cash bond pending a court appearance on October 25.
