Rockies 12, Aâs 0: The Rockies improved to 7-2 on Saturday with an impressive 12-0 win over the Athletics. Andrew Via lowered his season ERA to 1.50 with two shutout innings in which he allowed the only Athletic hit of the game, a Ben Terry infield single. Aaron Kirby and Sean McCleary pitched the remaining shutout no-hit innings. Sammy Kapur Luke Kirby, and Shea Talbot provided the power, each hitting long doubles off the Glander 1 fence. Kapurâs bases-clearing double in the fourth inning put the game far out of reach, earning him player of the game honors.
Rockies 13, Nationals 1: The Rockies improved to 8-2 on the fall season with an impressive win over the Nationals. Ryan Nolan took the mound for the first time this fall season and pitched two impressive shutout innings of one-hit baseball. Sammy Kapurâs two-run single put the Rockies up 2-0 in the top of the first. In the second inning, Ben Albee blasted a long double to the left field corner. Jack Lydon then drove in Sean McCleary and Ben Albee to secure the win for the Rockies. The Nationals had rallies brewing in the first, second, and sixth innings, but fine defensive plays by Ryan McNerny and Aaron Kirby kept the Nationals from making a comeback.
Orioles 8, White Sox 6: The White Sox jumped out to a four-run lead in the first inning but the Orioles stormed right back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning. The Orioles scored three runs in the fourth inning, an insurance run in the fifth, and, add in two controversial calls at second base, proved to be too much for the White Sox to overcome. Robert Murray had two solid defensive plays in center field to stop Oriole rallies. Patrick Oberstadt had a fine play at second base, while Ryan Burns, Robert Murray, and Tyler Fuori each pitched a scoreless inning in relief. Todd Petersen led the Orioles offense with two solid singles to left.
Pirates 9, Dodgers 6: In a seesaw battle that saw the Dodgers with an early 3-1 lead, the Pirates took the lead in the fifth and held on to win. Early pitching by David Kohler gave the Dodgers a 3-1 lead, but the Pirates hung tough on two solid innings of one-run pitching by Tim Shaw. For the Dodgers, Derrick Lewis, Tyler Stroili, Jack Forgione, Nick Kalra, and Matthew Sadowski all had key hits to keep the game close and Andrew Lally pitched a scoreless inning. For the Pirates, Jeremy Fisher and James Schumacher each had two hits, but it was Thomas Fitzgerald with two hits, one of which was a two-run home run, his first, over the center field fence that put the Pirates up for good.
