uMarcus Tracy (NHS ’05) notched an assist as the No. 2 Wake Forest men’s soccer team grabbed its third conference win of the season on Saturday night, defeating the North Carolina State Wolfpack, 4-0, at Spry Stadium. With the win Deacons improved to 9-0-2 and 3-0-1 in the ACC. Tracy has two goals and five assists for the Demon Deacons, who battled UNC Greensboro on Tuesday in a non-conference tilt before visiting Duke on Friday. The Deacons will be nearby on October 27 when they travel to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, to face Boston College.

uIn a 52-27 rout of Indiana on Saturday, October 13, Josh Rouse (Valley Forge Military Academy ‘06) of the Michigan State University football team appeared on defense and registered an assisted tackle. With the Spartans leading 24-10, the Hoosiers began a drive at their own 10 and handed the ball off the Bryan Payton three successive times … but the third time Payton was stopped after a gain of only one yard by Greg Jones and Rouse, forcing the Hoosiers to punt.

uA 2-1 loss to Marist snapped a three-game losing streak for the Fairfield University women’s soccer team, which moved to 7-6-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Casey Frobey (NHS ’06) had a pair of goals in a 2-0 win over Siena College on October 12 and now has a team-high seven on the season.

uSuccess on the athletic field and in the classroom. Katie Datin (NHS ’07) recently was named a Klein Scholar at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The Klein Scholar Program recognizes students who have demonstrated excellence in a challenging high school curriculum and have contributed to their school and community in significant and positive ways. The scholarship is worth $5,000 per year and can be renewed for up to eight semesters of study. Datin plays for the Franklin & Marshall field hockey team.

uJen Greenwood (NHS, ‘07) concluded a strong fall training program for the Rochester Polytechnic Institute women’s lacrosse team, which split four games at a Union College fall tournament. Greenwood played midfield and attack and scored three goals as RPI defeated Union (7-4) and Oneonta (5-2) while losing to Utica (4-3) and Union (3-1).

uRyan McGrath (NHS ’07) was a member of the Black squad for the annual Wake Forest baseball Black & Gold World Series. The traditional series wraps up the fall training program for the baseball program. McGrath pitched in the first game of the series, a 2-0 win by Gold, and while he fanned one batter in two-thirds of an inning, he also allowed a two-run double.

uThe No. 10 Montclair State University men’s soccer team lost its grip on the No. 1 spot in the New Jersey Athletic Conference last week when it lost, 3-0, to New Jersey City University for the first time in 21 years. The Red Hawks dropped to 13-2-1 overall and 9-1-0 in the NJAC. Brian Miles (NHS ’05) continues to anchor the D and has a goal and five assists in 16 games.

uWith three wins in their last five matches, the Emmanuel College women’s volleyball team improved to 6-19 overall. Diana Grimaldi (NHS’ 06) has appeared in 72 games and has registered 61 kills with a team-high 267 assists, 11 service aces, 102 digs and 23 blocks.

uThe Gettysburg University women’s soccer team improved to 4-9-1 after a 5-0 pounding of Washington College last weekend. Tara Gaston (NHS ’06) has appeared, and started, all 14 games for the Lady Bullets.

uMeredith Palo (Canterbury School ’07) has appeared, and started, all 13 games for the United States Coast Guard Academy women’s soccer team, which fell to 1-12 after a 3-1 loss to Babson last Saturday.

uBrian Conroy (NHS ’07) has appeared in three games for the Gettysburg University men’s soccer team, now 8-5-0 on the season after a 4-0 win over Washington College … Gettysburg’s fourth win in a row.

uJosh Tenenbaum (NHS ’06) appeared in his second game last weekend for the Bentley College football team in a 30-27 loss to C.W. Post. Tenenbaum was on the O line for all of Bentley’s field goal and extra-point attemps.

uCharlie Baldour (NHS ’07) finished 127th overall at 27:17 for the Keene State University men’s cross country team, which finished 22nd on October 6 at the New England Championships held at Franklin Park in Boston.

uLast weekend was the anticipated Big 10 meeting between the Wisconsin and Penn State football teams, pitting Dan Cascone (NHS ’05) of the Badgers and Brennan Coakley (NHS ’05) of the Nittany Lions. Penn State won the game, 38-7, but neither of the Newtown High School graduates appeared in the game.
