Occupation: I started a new job in September as assistant to the director at the Newtown Senior Center, but I’m also a personal trainer and group exercise instructor, including classes at the Senior Center.

Family: My husband Paul and I have two children. Our daughter, Lauren, is 19 and a sophomore at James Madison University in Virginia. Collin is 17 and a senior at Newtown High School.

Pets: I have one cat right now. His name is Candy Corn, because we adopted him as a stray right around Halloween four years ago. He’s orange and white striped, like candy corn.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We have lived her for 17 years. We moved here from Scarsdale, N.Y.

What do you like to do in your free time? Free time? What’s that? Well, most of our free time is spent with my wonderful friends, near and far. Of course, in the spring I’ll be watching Collin on the lacrosse field. I do like to read when I have time and I have a real eclectic taste in books.

Do you have a favorite book? Most recently I read Crashing Through by Robert Kurson. It’s about a gentleman who was blind for 40 years and through surgery regained some of his sight. What was interesting was his struggles with whether or not to have the procedure.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? We tend to try different destinations. One of our favorite family trips was out West. A lot of travel is centered around family and close friends — in England, Canada, Florida, New York.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I think it’s a very pretty setting. I like the location; it’s a country setting, but not too far from a few cities. It has a great sense of community.

If you could do anything at all that you have never done, what would that be? I would perform in a Broadway musical. Dancing was my “sport” of choice as a child. I think being in a big musical would be fun.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Celebrate life and try to help others do the same. I’ve always been a positive person and I think that positive feelings are contagious. And I’m very grateful every day for what I have.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? If it was something that brought me pleasure, I don’t think I’d feel guilty about it. I don’t think you should feel guilty about things that bring you pleasure — just don’t eat the whole cake!
