NUMC Fall Fair, Saturday At Reed School

The Newtown United Methodist Church Fall Arts and Crafts Fair will be held Saturday, October 20, from 10 am to 4 pm, at Reed Intermediate School, 3 Trades Lane.

The juried fair will include a variety of arts and crafts from local artists and crafters including paintings (oil landscapes and watercolors), hand carved Santas and woodland animals, handcrafted soaps, folk art, jewelry, doll clothes, nesting dolls, quilts, clay ornaments, brooms and maple products, floral arrangements, teepees and sleeping bags, birdhouses, olive oil, pottery, knitting, angels in art, garden grove pottery, wood yard art, and children’s quilts.

One of this year’s featured artisans will be Justamere Tree Farm of Worthington, Mass., located within the Berkshires. J.P. and Marian Welch, the owners of the farm, handcraft early American and Shaker brooms as well as produce a wide variety of maple syrup products on the farm. The brooms are handcrafted from broom corn grown on Justamere Tree Farm. They studied the art of broom making at Hancock Shaker Village in Pittsfield, Mass. It is their attention to detail that creates such demand for the brooms that are both functional and works of art.

J.P. will be demonstrating and sharing his knowledge of broom making at the NUMC Arts & Crafts Fair. The Welches will also have a selection of their homemade maple syrups, sugars, creams, pancake mixes, and more for sale at the fair.

The Newtown United Methodist Church Outreach Committee will also host a Bolivian Boutique to sell beautiful hand sewn goods from the Bolivian village supported by the Newtown church. The boutique will feature scarves, hats, dolls, back packs, table runners, cloths, and many more hand sewn items made of Bolivian woven wool. Proceeds from the sales at the boutique will be returned to the Women’s Cooperatives in Bolivia.

Members of the Rotary Club of Danbury will be on hand to provide Amber Alert registrations to all children.

The fair will also include a wide variety of homemade baked goods, theme baskets, and a silent auction. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, soup, chili and much more will all be available for lunch.

Admission is free. For more information, contact the church office at 426-9998.
