More Than 100 Artists

To Participate In Craft Center’s

Benefit Auction

BROOKFIELD — Brookfield Craft Center’s upcoming fall fundraiser, “An Artisans’ Affair,” will showcase over 100 artists working in craft media from the local area and from across the nation in live and silent auctions to be held at a festive afternoon event at the Washington Club Hall on Route 47. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 20, from 3 to 6 pm.

“An Artisans’ Affair” will also feature fine foods and wines, live music, and a show of work made by students of the 53 year old not-for-profit craft school.

Some of the better known local artists participating in the auctions are Elizabeth MacDonald of Bridgewater, Tommy Simpson of Washington, Joy Brown of Kent, Lessley Burke and Kari Lonning of Ridgefield, Doug Foulke of Brookfield, Ian Ingersoll of West Cornwall, Ann Mallory and Andy Peklo of Woodbury, and Peter Petrochko of Oxford. Other national-profile artists who will have work up for bid include Binh Pho of Illinois, Marjorie Simon of Philadelphia, Peter Callas of New Jersey and David Ellsworth of Pennsylvania.

The live auction will be conducted by a professional auctioneer provided by Sotheby’s and a separate silent auction will feature a dazzling array of handmade functional objects for the home and stylish wearable art for the body. Both auctions will be facilitated by Litchfield Auctions.

A preview of the live auction collection is available online at BrookfieldCraftCenter.org as of October 13.

Proceeds from the benefit will support Brookfield Craft Center’s educational programs and planned renovations of its historic campus. A limited number of tickets starting at $75 per person may be purchased by calling the Center at 775-4526 or visiting their website.

According to Bruce Haims of Roxbury, CT, President of their Board of Directors and a co-chair of the event,

“The auction will provide both experienced collectors and others who appreciate fine handmade objects with an opportunity to enjoy and bid on outstanding examples of contemporary American crafts,” said Bruce Haims, president of the craft center’s board of directors and a co-chair of the event.

For further information or an invitation to “An Artisans’ Affair,” call the Center at 775-4526.
