Cheering On Girls’ Soccer

To the Editor:

Cheers to the Newtown High School Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team! They are top-ranked in the state, undefeated and playing some of the most exciting soccer our town has ever seen. I encourage all supporters of Newtown, and all lovers of soccer. to come out and see what the buzz is all about. You’ll see tremendous skill, heart, and the caliber of play that reflects players with such accolades as All-New England, All-State, All Conference, and Olympic Development. This is group of girls that rivals the Newtown Girls’ 2004 LL State Championship team. I don’t say that lightly. Keep up the great work girls, you make Newtown proud!

Praise to the Newtown Soccer Club as well. With over 1,800 players in its program, it is one of the keys to creating such wonderful players and strong teams. Well done.

(For transparency purposes...I have no daughters on the 2007 Nighthawks team, my daughter Tara was on the 2004 Championship team. She plays college soccer. Two of her best friends were also on that 2004 team, Casey Frobey and Alex Konneker, they also play college soccer. I also chair the Western United Extreme Girls Premier Soccer Program out of Newtown...hope I have all my bases covered.)
