Camerata d’Amici To Return To Meeting House For Concert

Camerata d’Amici, a choral music group of more than 40 auditioned singers from Fairfield and Westchester counties, will perform in concert on Saturday, November 10, at 4 pm, at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street.

This will be the second public concert of the group since its formation in October 2006. Its first concert was given on May 5, 2007, also at the meeting house.

The November 10 repertoire will feature a wide spectrum of music, ranging from well-known spirituals to classical works by Brahms and Mendelssohn to early 20th Century pieces by Maurice Duruflé and Benjamin Britten. Freewill donations will be accepted at the door and during intermission.

Camerata d’Amici’s mission is to provide a choral music resource for the local area, which encompasses both upper Fairfield and Westchester counties. The group’s goal is to encourage singing and to perform choral music of the highest quality, both sacred and secular. The group hopes “to offer its art to people of all ages so that they may develop a keener appreciation for and enjoyment from choral music.”

Kristin Sponheim is conductor and founder of the Camerata d’Amici. She received her BA in music from St Olaf College in Minnesota and her MMA in church music from The Claremont Graduate School in California. She earned her PhD in music history at Yale University with a dissertation on 17th Century choral music.

In addition to her singing and directing skills, she is also an accomplished pianist, organist and flutist.
