Awesome Scarecrows

To the Editor:

My wholehearted thanks to all the eighth grade students at the Newtown Middle School who took the challenge and participated in this year’s scarecrow contest! In my years as an art teacher at NMS, I have never been more proud than I am this year.

The cooperative spirit and enthusiasm of the students and their parents, the creativity shown in the design of each sculpture, and the quality of construction in order to “defy Mother Nature,” are all a wonderful testament to our teenagers and their willingness to create and work for a cause. It is my privilege to work with these young people.

Enjoy the show for the rest of the weekend and please cast your vote for your favorite! All monies go to the charity of the winners’ choice.
