Yiddish Program At B’nai Israel

DANBURY, CT  — Jack Weinstein, professor of Yiddish language and culture at SUNY Binghamton, will share his knowledge in a presentation entitled “Mame-Loshn-Yiddish – As She Was, Is Today and Will Be” at Congregation B’nai Israel, 193 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury, on Sunday, October 31, at 11:00 am.

This program is a part of the Jewish Federation’s series of cultural programs offered to the community without charge.

Professor Weinstein is a well-known lecturer and librarian who brings to his audiences a love of the Yiddish language and his broad knowledge about Jewish life. He has taught in both the United States and Israel and has worked in a number of libraries including at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, Gratz College in Philadelphia, and the YIVO Institute in New York City. In Israel, he directed the Cataloging and Classification Department at Ben Gurion University and the Acquisitions Department at Haifa University.

“We’re very excited about Professor Weinstein visiting the Danbury area,” said Judy Prager, administrator of the Jewish Federation. “We hope that this lecture will be the catalyst to establish an ongoing Yiddish Club in the community which the Federation is prepared to sponsor.”

A light brunch of bagels, cream cheese, coffee and tea will be provided. For information about the lecture or Yiddish Club, call the Jewish Federation office, 792-6353.
