Snapshot: Kim Killoy
Occupation: I am the drug-free communities coordinator for the Newtown Prevention Council. I execute the budget and programs with the help of a supervisory team.
Family: My husband is Thomas. He works in Manhattan every day. We have four children. Tommy is 17; Jake is 15; Tristan is 11; and Karly is 9 years old.
How long have you been in Newtown? I’ve been with the Prevention Council since November of 2009. We’ve lived in Monroe for 19 years.
What do you like to do in your free time? I like to spend time with my family. Since Tom is in Manhattan all during the week, on weekends we do family things, like watching Tristan’s baseball games or taking Karly to karate. Right now, I’m also working with the Collaboration Women’s Center in Monroe. I’m doing event planning and marketing for them, and that is keeping me busy. I love the concept of women helping women. I’ve been so busy, I miss not having much time to read.
Do you have a favorite author? I’m definitely a romance novel reader, and Nicholas Sparks in my all-time favorite author.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? The Jersey Shore. We’ve been going there since before we had children. Long Beach Island is pretty much our destination each summer.
What is the best thing about Newtown? I have met the most amazing people here. I feel such a sense of community and welcome here. I think the people I’ve met are always willing to share their ideas.
Who has been the greatest influence in your life? My parents, Joseph and Mary Marini. My dad passed away ten years ago. My mom is still in Bridgeport, where I grew up. They instilled in me the importance of family and respect, and acting so that you are proud.
Do you have a personal philosophy? Live well, love much, laugh often, and don’t forget to dance.
Do you have a guilty pleasure? Chocolate! That always makes me happy. I like it all, dark or milk chocolate.
