William J. Waller

William John Waller, 75, beloved husband of Alice (Burgess) Waller of Monroe, died October 17 at St Vincent’s Medical Center.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl E. and Paul Knapik of Newtown.

Mr Waller was born in Chicago, Ill., to Louisa and Richard J. Waller. He was a decorated World War II Army veteran, having served as a marksman in the European Theater.

In the early years of the Monroe Little League, Mr Waller managed and then became the president. He formed the Mothers Club to help finance the organization. Later he organized the Senior Little League in Monroe.

He retired from the Research and Development division at Perkin-Elmer and moved to Virginia in 1986, where he became active in the Woolwine United Methodist Church. He had also been a member of the Perkin-Elmer retirees. Mr Waller returned to Monroe in 1998.

In addition to his wife and daughter, Mr Waller is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Scott B. and Deborah Waller of Woodbury; another daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen Waller-Hickey and Charles C. Hickey, III, of Monroe; two sisters, Constance Rollins of Waterbury and Joan Hamilton of Virginia; five grandchildren, Andrew S. and Alexandra E. Waller, Heather K. and Joseph P. Knapik, and Kolya Waller-Hickey; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Bruce B. Waller, and sister, Louisa Lillian White.

Calling hours were scheduled for Thursday, October 19, from 4 to 8 pm in the Lesko-Miner Funeral Home, 155 Main Street (Route 25), Monroe. A prayer service was scheduled at 7:30 pm officiated by the Rev Daniel Crockett. Interment with full military honors will be  Saturday, October 21, at 10 am in the Stepney Cemetery.
