Of Shared Experiences
NEW MILFORD â Bob Crofut, who has been capturing the magical moments of American life in his oil paintings since he began painting professionally in 1974, is exhibiting his latest oils in a major one-man show beginning Sunday, October 24, at Gregory James Gallery.
Entitled âAn American Remembrance: A Celebration of Our Shared American Experience,â the show opens at 1 pm on October 24 and will run through November 28. The artist will be present to greet the public at the catered reception, which is from 1 to 5 pm. The gallery is at 16 Bridge Street.
Twenty-five framed oils, many 20 by 30 inches, are to be exhibited, and all are offered for sale. Prints and posters will also be for sale.
Greg Mullen, the owner of Gregory James Gallery, says of Mr Crofut, âBobâs artistry captures the human spirit. He offers a fond memory, a familiar place.â
Walt Reed, the owner of New York Cityâs Illustration House, Inc, and the author of numerous books on American illustration, says, âFor a long time Bob Crofut has quietly been producing an impressive body of work, both as an illustrator and a painter. He certainly deserves to be known and appreciated by a wider audience.â
Mr Crofut paints people of stature and character, yet all are seen through the golden glow of memory. His unique style combines strength and softness, greatness and grace, as few other artists do.
Because of the calming beauty of his paintings, his work is widely sought after and privately collected. It is included in the Sanford Low Collection of American illustration at the New Britain Museum of American Art.
âI try to re-create the sense of awe and magic about life that I first recall feeling as a young child,â says the artist, a Ridgefield resident. âThe way sunlight touches your forehead⦠the beauty of fireflies at night. These things remind us that life is magical, spiritual. When people look at my paintings, I hope they feel a sense of respite from the harsher realities of life.â
