Nighthawk Runners Compete In SWC Championships

BETHEL — South-West Conference cross country teams came together to compete in the championship races on the scenic Bethel High trails on October 16.

Runners were treated to cool, 50-something degree temperatures. The host Bethel boys won the race with Newtown finishing third behind first-place finisher Soheib Dissa who finished in a time of 16:00.1. Weston placed second as a team.

The team scores were close with Bethel's top five finishers recording a meet-best score of 93, Weston tallying 96, and NHS finishing with 98.

Newtown's Orion Lowery was 13th in 17:45.0, Ubay Dissa came in 26th in 18:20.5, Stephen Sibley was 28th in 18:31.3, Brian Sibley took 30th in 18:35.1, and Sebastian Colburn was 35th in 19:01.5.

In the girls' race New Milford was first with 46, followed by New Fairield with 47, Pomperaug of Southbury with 53, and NHS next with 124.

New Fairfield's Katie McMorrow was first overall in a time of 19:08.6. Newtown was led by Natalie McLean in 11th with a time of 21:07.3. Annabelle Foley was 19th in 22:00.7, Grace Lyons placed 24th in 22:41.3, Jessie Moore came in 33rd in 23:38.7, Britta Petersen was 38th in 23:50.2, and Clara DiNoto came in 40th in 24:00.5.
