Harriman-Stites Is A Beacon Of Light
To The Editor:
This election, I will be paying close attention to the character of each candidate above all else. I am heartsick to see the pervasiveness of bullying and disrespect among our current government officials. Tactics used to incite anger and discontent as a way to sway votes are out-of-date, expected, and downright lazy.
My eyes are on the candidates that show me they are willing to do the work towards achieving collaborative solutions. As I watch current politicians take the easy road of tearing people down, I’ll be looking for those that are ready to put in the heroic effort towards building communities up. The ones that know it won’t be easy but will be giving it everything they’ve got.
Whether we share the same political beliefs or not, if you are willing to hear me out and demonstrate your ability to find solutions that can meet many viewpoints, you have my vote. If you can stand tall maintaining your composure and kindness while faced with negative opposition, I’m behind you 100 percent.
In local politics, Rebekah Harriman-Stites is this shining beacon of light. I have seen Rebekah at many community events seeking to understand community members with an inviting smile on her face. I have watched Rebekah as a member of the Board of Education advocating for the well-being of all children in our community, holding strong on her positions with a gentle but steady confidence. I have also observed Rebekah as a business owner supporting nonprofits in our community with fundraising events and grant opportunities with a passionate sense of purpose. For these qualities alone, she will be getting my vote in November. I wish Rebekah the best of luck and call for all other candidates to follow the example by which she leads.
