NHS Events Will Affect Parks & Rec Programs Tonight, Tomorrow
Newtown Parks & Recreation programs that were scheduled at Newtown High School today and tomorrow may be affected due to a pair of NHS programs.
Anyone planning to present or participate in a Parks & Rec event should note the following, per Parks & Rec:
“Tonight — Friday, October 17 — there is a high school football game at the Blue and Gold Stadium. Due to expected large crowds, all outside sports organization and Parks and Recreation activities are not permitted in the building or to use any of the fields.
“Saturday, October 18 is the Grasso Festival,” the annual home event for the NHS Marching Band & Color Guard.
“All outside sports organizations and Parks and Recreation activities at the high school are cancelled after 12:00 noon.
“Any groups found using the high school fields during these times will lose future field privileges.
“Thank you for understanding and have wonderful weekend.”
The open swim session scheduled for Saturday, October 18, has been cancelled, but swim lessons will take place tomorrow, according to Parks & Rec.
Tonight’s game will have the Nighthawks hosting Ansonia. The Nighthawks are seeded third in the Class LL state playoff point rankings. They are one of six unbeaten teams in the LL division this season.
The visiting Charters, currently ranked fifth in Class S, have won 48 straight games. They are one game shy of tying Cheshire’s state record, set during the early and middle 1990s. They are also the three-time Class S state champions.
Kickoff is at 7 pm.
Tomorrow, the NHS Marching Band & Guard will honor all 32 of its graduating seniors during the 18th Annual Joseph P. Grasso Music Festival. The event will also feature the group performing this year’s show, “Arachne,” as well as competition between seven high school marching bands in a Musical Arts Conference (MAC) competition.
Gates open at 5, performances begin at 6, and admission is $10 for adults, and $7 for students and senior citizens. Children ages 5 and under are admitted free of charge.
