Police Reports October 4 - 11, 2013
Holster Found
Police report that at about 12:15 am on October 14, a person found a black, molded leather, paddle-style holster in the Vining Road area. Such holsters are used to carry a pistol on a waist belt. Vining Road is a side street off Toddy Hill Road. The holster’s owner may contact police at the police station to claim the item.
Illegal Dumping
Someone sometime between 2:30 pm on October 4, and 6:55 am on October 7, illegally dumped a large amount of brush and dirt in the driveway at an industrial site at 9 Button Shop Road in Botsford, police report. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact investigating Offfi8cer John McCluskey at the police station at 203-426-5841.
Audi Vs Honda
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Sugar Street and Elm Drive about 7:40 pm on October 9.
Motorist Rebecca Banoff, 19, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2011 Honda CRV SUV northward on Elm Drive, stopped at a stop sign at its intersection with Sugar Street, police said.
At that time, motorist Gary Schleiter, 60, of 78 Brushy Hill Road was driving a 2001 Audi A-6 sedan westward on Sugar Street, police said.
As the Honda attempted to turn right onto Sugar Street, the Audi attempted to turn left onto Elm Drive, resulting in a collision, police said.
There were no injuries. Schleiter received a written warning for failure to drive to the right, police said.
Intersection Crash
A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and Park Lane about 7:50 am on September 30.
In that incident, motorist Dean Sciortino, 48, of 22 John Beach Road was driving a 2009 Buick Enclave SUV northward on South Main Street, and motorist Jeffrey Smith, 40, of 3 Park Lane, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV, was waiting at a stop sign on Park Lane, police said.
The Buick then attempted to make a left turn to enter Park Lane and the two vehicles collided, police said.
There were no injuries. Sciortino was verbally warned for making an improper turn, and Smith was verbally warned for failure to obey a stop sign, police said.
Sandy Hook Center
About 2:20 pm on October 11, motorist Theodore Haynos, 78, of 28 Watkins Drive, who was driving a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder SUV, was legally parked alongside the westbound curb at 115 Church Hill Road, police said.
At that time, motorist Christine Schoetz, 46, of 9 Horseshoe Ridge Road, who was driving a 2013 Volvo XC-60 SUV northward on Washington Avenue, made a left turn on westbound Church Hill Road, police said.
The Nissan then began to pull away from the curb and two vehicles collided, police said. There were no injuries.
The two motorists drove to the police station to report the accident, police said. Police said they verbally warned Haynos for making an improper start.
Church Hill Crash
Motorist Christina Tapanes, 40, of Southbury, who was driving a 2008 Volvo XC-90 SUV westward on Church Hill Road about 4:08 pm on October 10, signaled to make a left turn into the driveway for St Rose School and then stopped for eastbound traffic to pass, after which the Volvo was struck from behind by westbound motorist Donald Stowe, 61, of 48 Hanover Road, who was driving a 2002 Chrysler Sebring sedan, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Stowe a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Toyota Vs Chevy
At about 7:50 am on October 4, a two-vehicle collision occurred near 29 Church Hill Road, police report.
Motorist Valerie Foran, 44, of Mahopac, N.Y., was driving a 2009 Toyota Highlander SUV westward on Church Hill Road, police said. Motorist Clark Feeley, 43, of 4 Lincoln Road was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze sedan eastward, police added.
The Chevrolet then stopped in preparing to make a left turn into the driveway for 29 Church Hill Road, police report. At that time, the Toyota was passing a stopped line of westbound traffic on the right, police said.
The two vehicles collided. Foran was injured in the accident, police said. Foran received an infraction for passing on the right, according to police.
Mt Pleasant Collision
Motorist Joseph Dran, 59, of 48 Scudder Road, who was driving a 2004 Nissan 2300 truck westward on Mt Pleasant Road, stopped in preparing to make a left turn into the driveway at 151 Mt Pleasant Road at about 3:05 pm on October 4, when a westbound 2004 Dodge Durango SUV driven by Tammi Ott, 40, of Stratford struck the rear end of the Nissan, police report.
Ott received injuries in the accident, police said. Ott was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.
Wasserman Way
At about 4:42 pm on October 11, motorist Bradford Howe, 53, of Washington was driving a 2008 Honda Accord sedan westward on Wasserman Way behind westbound motorist Ronald Glander, 46, of Litchfield, who was driving a 2006 Honda Pilot SUV, police report.
Police said that Howe told them he briefly was not paying attention to the roadway and the sedan struck the rear end of the SUV.
Glander reported pain as a result of the collision, police said. Howe received an infraction for following too closely, according to police.
Three Vehicles
A three-vehicle collision occurred near 98 Berkshire Road about 4:07 pm on October 7.
In that incident, motorist Camille Charles, 29, of Derby, who was driving a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, crossed the road’s center line and collided with two vehicles — a 2013 Honda CRV SUV driven by Theodore Pacific, 55, of Brookfield, and also a 2003 Toyota Corolla sedan driven by Mitali Brahmbhatt, 26, of Newburgh, N.Y., police report.
There were no injuries. Charles received an infraction for failure to drive to the right, police said.
VW Vs Scion
Police report that motorist John Vlahos, 22, of Monroe, who was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta sedan westward near 62 Church Hill Road about 5 pm on October 3, attempted to make a left turn, but collided with eastbound motorist John Novi, 30, of Plymouth, who was driving a 2006 Scion TC coupe.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Vlahos a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
Highway Crash
State police report that at about 2:52 pm on October 11, motorist Mary Schivera, 52, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse SUV eastward on Interstate 84 between the Exit 11 off-ramp and on-ramp, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Chevrolet was struck from behind by motorist Steve Kalaitzidis, 64, of Nashua, N.H., who was driving a 2002 Toyota Tundra pickup truck.
There were no injuries. Kalaitzidis received a written warning for following too closely, state police report.
Exit 10 Ramp
Motorist Mercedes Valarezo, 29, of Danbury was driving a 2002 Dodge Neon sedan on wet pavement on westbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 on-ramp at about 3:18 pm on October 6, when the vehicle went out of control on a curve and then slid to the right, striking some guardcabling, state police said.
Valarezo was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.
Vandalism
Sometime between midnight and 7:30 am on October 7, someone used white paint to vandalize two driveways on Toddy Hill Road, near Quarry Ridge Road, police said. Police ask any witnesses to the incident or to any suspicious activity in that area at that time to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.
