Newtown Assist

The State Police reported that at about 12:19 am on October 13, an unidentified off-duty Newtown police officer heading home from work notified the Southbury barracks that he was observing a possible drunk driver traveling eastbound on I-84 in the area of Exit 11. Troopers tracked and intercepted the vehicle in question in Middlebury and subsequently arrested the driver, Jose Vicente Farez, 37, of Green Street in Middletown. He was charged with DWI, failure to drive in the proper lane, and operating without a license. Farez was held at Troop A on a $500 bond pending arraignment.

Foot Slipped

Kevin Schulz, 30, was reportedly waiting at a red light on the Exit 11 off ramp to I-84 at about 6:53 am on October 15, when State Police say the driver’s foot slipped off the brake causing his 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee to bump the rear of a 2000 Honda Civic being operated by Victor Santos of Phoenix Avenue in Naugatuck. The incident resulted in what police described as a minor scrape on the Honda’s rear bumper. No charges were reported.
