Kindness Repaid
Kindness Repaid
To the Editor:
I would like to share with you a story. In 1991, I was in an accident. Luckily, my accident was in Newtown. I say this was lucky because the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance responded in my moment of need, at no cost to me. Fortunately, I have recovered from my injuries. But during my recovery, on more than a dozen occasions, members of this service helped me with transportation to and from my doctor appointments, brought over a cooked meal for my young son and myself, or just stopped by to cheer me up.
My story may not be typical of your experiences, but I am their dispatcher.
A couple of years ago, as the single mother of two, I made the decision to try and repay to some extent the kindness shown me. I enrolled in one of the many EMT courses offered in the area. Then in 1999, I became a member of Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Association. I have had the rewarding experience of responding to all of you, my neighbors, in your times of need.
My story doesnât end here. Every day new bonds, friendship, community, commitment, and duty are formed when we welcome a new member to this volunteer group.
I am proudly married now and my family is my biggest support in by ability to serve our great community. I would like to urge everyone, whether a town resident or not, to become associated in any manner with the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Association. Please contact us at 270-4380, and leave a message; we may be out responding to an emergency.
Sincerely Yours,
Lorribeth Pavone
