DUBLIN, Ohio - Colleen Davis and John Fiscella of Newtown High School have been nominated for the 2000 Wendy's High School Heisman program.
DUBLIN, Ohio â Colleen Davis and John Fiscella of Newtown High School have been nominated for the 2000 Wendyâs High School Heisman program.
Since 1994, the program has sought to recognize many outstanding high school seniors who have accomplished superior athletic feats while serving their local communities and achieving academic success.
Some 22,000 high schools nationally are invited to submit one male and one female student who embodies the âscholar-citizen-athleteâ character. More than 12,000 students were nominated for this award.
The program was created through a partnership between Wendyâs, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and the Downtown Athletic Club of New York City â the home of the Heisman Trophy since 1935.
Entries will be evaluated by a scholastic review service to narrow the field to 1,020 state finalists and, later, 102 state winners. A panel of judges â including past Heisman Memorial Trophy recipients â will review the state finalists and select 12 national finalists representing the six geographic regions.
Students who receive state winner status will earn $500 for their school. National finalists will earn $1,000 while national winners will earn $2,500 for their schools. The National finalists will be honored at the Downtown Athletic Club December 7 through 10.
