Bridges.com Scholarships – Bridges.com scholarships are open to the students of schools that subscribe to this service only. Newtown High School uses this service and therefore students can get the information they need to apply for this scholarship in the Career Center. Bridges.com offers five $1,000 scholarships for graduating students registered in full-time studies. Students must declare a career or life goal and explain how they will achieve their goal by exploring their community and completing at least 50 hours of paid, volunteer, and/or community work or education during their graduating year. Student declarations must be submitted online (this can be done in the Career Center) to Bridges.com by January 31, 2001.

CHSCA Scholar Athlete Scholarships – The Connecticut High School Coaches Association will award its annual $1,000 scholarships to high school scholar-athletes. Graduating seniors from CIAC member schools who meet the following requirements are eligible: 1) have earned at least one varsity letter; 2) have achieved a minimum 3.0 academic average; and 3) have demonstrated exemplary citizenship and leadership. One male and one female scholar athlete will be nominated from Newtown High School. The Coaches Association will present six $1,000 scholarships to the top three males and three females selected by the non-Coaching Committee.  Application must be returned to the NHS Career Center by December 15, 2000.

Connecticut Innovations Technology Scholar Program – available to high school seniors who are planning to continue their education at one of the Connecticut’s two-year or four-year colleges and universities in the fields of science and technology. The award amount for students at a 2-year school is $2,000; for a 4 year school, it is $10,000. One of the goals of the Program is to keep some of the best and brightest students within the State of Connecticut after they’ve completed their college education.  Therefore, one of the conditions of the award is that these students must fulfill a two-year work requirement upon completion of their degree program. Scholars will be selected based on some of the following guidelines: 1) maintain a “B” average or 3.0 GPA throughout high school and college; 2) be in the top 20 percent of his or her graduating class and have scored at least 1,000 combined on the SAT test.  Application deadline is February 1, 2001.
