Snapshot: Caitlin Ormond
Family: My husband Adrian, and my two children.
Do you have any pets? No, unless you count named plants, which I do (laughs).
How long have you lived in Newtown? Seven years.
Work: I am starting as a paraeducator for the Newtown Public Schools. I’ve had the pleasure and the privilege of staying home with my children for the last several years.
What do you like to do with your free time? As a family we really enjoy an outdoor adventure — hiking, biking, swimming, simply exploring. When I catch a moment for myself, I enjoy running. I’m completing the Maine Half Marathon. I also enjoy photography.
Are you part of any local organizations? I am co-president of the Head O’Meadow PTA.
If you could spend a day with any person, living or deceased, who would you choose and why? My mom. She passed away just about 11 years ago, and there is so much I understand about her now that I never would have comprehended before having children. She never got the chance to see me become a mother. I would love to sit and share with her all things motherhood. I would like to let her know I get it now, and I would like to thank her for the example she set for me. She was very impactful in my life.
What was the most recent movie you saw in the theater? Inside Out 2, with my kids and their friends.
Favorite actor? That’s a tough one because I’m not a huge movie person, but I’ve loved everything I’ve seen Christoph Waltz in. I think he’s a phenomenal actor. Also Jennifer Lawrence. She’s awesome too.
Do you have a favorite music genre? I could never choose just one. I really like a little bit of everything.
Favorite musical performer? Taylor Swift.
What was the most recent concert you went to? We went to the Thursday night concerts at Dickinson Park this past summer, with my children. It turned out to be the perfect meet-up for me and some of my mom friends, because our children could run off and play in the playground and us parents could sit and catch up over a picnic. We would all bring something, so we would all have dinner.
Favorite food? Ice cream.
Favorite color? Pink.
Do you have any pet peeves? Crumbs and clutter. I can’t focus and I can’t think straight if there’s crumbs and clutter around me.
What is your proudest accomplishment? My children, hands down.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? What I enjoy most about traveling is discovering not-so-new-to-me places, and assimilating into the culture. I don’t think I could choose one favorite place. They’re all unique and wonderful in their own way.
What is something you cannot live without? Coffee, and my camera.
What is your favorite thing about Newtown? The sense of community and connectedness. From the time we moved here, we met someone who knew someone, who knew someone else, who knew someone, and it just felt very welcoming. It felt like we weren’t alone, even being new here.
What is something you would like to see The Newtown Bee cover, or cover further? You guys do a really good job at covering everything but maybe more small business highlights. The more people I’ve gotten to know, the more I learn about businesses that people run. It would be awesome to know more about who does what. There’s a lot of talent here.
Do you have a personal credo? Stay humble in all that you do.
