Attention all ghosts and goblins: Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity invites trick-or-treaters to the Fifth Annual Sandy Hook Village Halloween Walk on Saturday, October 24, from 11 am to 2 pm.

During those hours, merchants in the area of Washington Avenue, Riverside Road, Glen Road and Church Hill Road will scare up a delightful array of in-store candy and other treats for kids dressed in costume.

Local children are invited to attend with parent or other adult, in their best, scariest, funniest, and creative Halloween outfits. The Sandy Hook business district offers a safe environment for children to trick or treat during the daylight hours. Decorations will be up and the businesses will be ready for the little pirates and princesses to pay them a visit.

Event Organizer Sharon Doherty, proprietor of PJ’s Laundromat, said that last year’s Halloween Walk had the largest turnout yet, and she is excited to welcome old and new visitors back again this year.

“It’s for the little kids and that’s what it is all about. The little kids having a good time,” said Ms Doherty. “The Halloween Walk has been a very special local community event that attracts many families with young kids. It’s a safe alternative to trick or treating because it’s such a pedestrian friendly neighborhood."

In addition, members of the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Ladies Auxiliary will not only have a tent set up where they will be handing out treats, they will also be collecting donations for FAITH Food Pantry.

Ms Doherty, who is also a member of that auxiliary group, said the group is hoping to continue momentum they had during SHOP’s Passport to Sandy Hook on October 10.

“We did very well last weekend,” Ms Doherty told The Newtown Bee on October 14. “We collected four large boxes of food, as well as approximately $80 in cash donations.

“We hope to do the same at the Halloween Walk for the food pantry, whose shelves are bare again,” she added.

Merchants, business owners and a few local organizations are hoping to see plenty of costumed characters on October 24, when the Fifth Annual Sandy Hook Village Halloween Walk takes place. Children of all ages will be welcome to visit Sandy Hook Center for three hours of safe Trick-0r-Treating.
