AARP Connecticut will host a Caregiver Listening Session in Newtown on Friday, October 24, from 7 to 9 pm, at LeReine’s Cuisine, 31 Pecks Lane.

Community members who are family caregivers, members of the sandwich generation, or grappling with the challenges faced by aging, ill or disabled loved ones are encouraged to attend and share their stories and insights.

The information gathered during this session will help inform AARP’s education and advocacy efforts in Connecticut to better support family caregivers and their loved ones.

According to AARP State Advocacy Director Claudio Gualtieri, “AARP is dedicated to supporting older residents’ greatest support system — family caregivers. To make sure family caregivers have a voice at the state capitol, AARP is reaching out to caregivers in communities across our state to find out what they need, and how we can better support them and help their loved ones remain in their own homes as they age.”

In 2015, AARP will advocate for laws that recognize family caregivers and provide training opportunities when loved ones are hospitalized, support the development of tools to help navigate the health care system, and fight to preserve and expand respite programs that give caregivers a break.

This session is free and light refreshments will be provided. Seating is limited and reservations are suggested.

Call 203-304-9740 or e-mail lereinescuisine@gmail.com to reserve a seat.
